The Royal Margot

Posted by Natalie Jones on

Margot House, a chic hotel recently opened in Barcelona, describes its ethos as a place where the 'essential becomes exceptional'. A material-palette of wood and cement brings a discrete, calming quality to the interior. Hut-panelling combined with soft linens and exceptional furniture curation brings to mind a tasteful beach-resort-cum-Scandi-retreat. A father and daughter duo both with an interior design background, this hospitality creation is a family affair.

The classic branding, designed but Studio Séptimo, utilises navy blue as the signature colour complete with gold text. It is contemporary and distinguished like the hotel, which offers a 24-hour cafeteria, reception shop, Brompton bicycle hire, a library, concierge services and an honesty bar!

I wish my father had taste like Sergio Durany (daughter Sandra)! Sorry Dad.

Punch Bar

Posted by Natalie Jones on

Shanghai based design practice, Neri and Hu, have opened a bar specialising in punch. Often a dangerous concoction, punch is a home-brew of aromatic ingredients and alcohol served at celebratory occasions. "The word ‘punch’ originates from Sanskrit word panch, meaning ‘five’,” say Neri and Hu “since the drink was originally made with just five ingredients: alcohol, sugar, lemon, water, and tea or spices.” Logan's Punch Bar sort their punch into 4 strands depending on your taste of tipple - Liquor, Citrus, Spice and Sugar. The bar interior mimics that of a Chinese back-alley with reclaimed timber, bottle-green glass and bronze piping however rather than describing themselves as a speak easy, they are a speak loudly. It's reminded me that punch is a great summer drink to look forward to.
