Beauty Library

Posted by Natalie Jones on

The latest project by Japanese creative studio Nendo, is a beauty store and cafe based in Tokyo. Serving health-conscious food and drinks, visitors can meet and shop over a coffee - just like at CARO! With a shop layout similar to a library, coffee drinkers sit amongst floor-to-ceiling shelving units sparsely stacked with brightly coloured bottles. QR codes are available to those who would like to learn more about the product or purchase an item online at home.

I wanted to share what Nendo write about themselves - it's so cute.

Giving people a small ” ! ” moment.
There are so many small ” ! ” moments hidden in our everyday.

But we don’t recognize them.
and even when we do recognize them,we tend to unconsciously reset our
minds and forget what we’ve seen.

But we believe these small ” ! ” moments are what make our days so
interesting, so rich.

That’s why we want to reconstitute the everyday by collecting and
reshaping them into something that’s easy to understand.

We’d like the people who’ve encountered nendo’s designs to feel these
small ” ! ” moments intuitively.

That’s nendo’s job.

Aesop Paris

Aesop have introduce a soft walnut wood into their interior which has a sophisticated 70's feel to it. With a nod to Pierre Chareau's Maison de Verre (House of Glass), the space reflects the honest materials and of-the-time home decor. The peach Pierre Paulin chair is a beautiful combination with the steel shelving and wooden units and Gae Aulenti Quadrofoglio table lamp.

If you haven't tried Aesop yet, it's a must - Aesop Skincare Collection

Gingerbread House - for real

Posted by Natalie Jones on

Another Living Architecture masterpiece! This time a collaboration between FAT & Grayson Perry and located in Essex, this is a holiday home beyond expectation. Of course, it's booked up now. Maybe next year.... The building itself has gorgeous views out onto the River Stour but at night, the view into the church-like windows has an altogether different picture. Filled with the Turner Prize winners work, it isn't short of colour. The detailed interiors are mixed with gloss surfaces, wood finishes and moulded tile fireplaces. I love the slightly pistachio bathroom.

Playful, intelligent and with a sense of storytelling, the house is born out of a conceptual love story - a fulfilled promise to a wife that if she died before him, he would buy the Taj Mahal, on The Stour. 'Julie Cope' now lives on in the house for all of us to experience. Must watch the Channel 4 documentary.
