TESHIO comes from the saying in Japanese, “TESHIO NI KAKERU,” which means to cherish a person or an object with personal care and attention.
TESHIO also means a small serving of salt on a little plate which is meant to purify the table in the Japanese tradition. This small serving of salt happened to be used as seasoning for dishes in a course of time, and the small plate used to serve salt was named “TESHIO-ZARA (plates)” eventually.
