With a heritage that began in the 1920’s, Mangle and Wringler is a story steeped in tradition, values and provenance. We all hear of recipes that have been passed on from generation to generation but rarely are we able to get our hands on them; until M&W introduced us to Mrs Mangle’s lifetime housekeeping treatments.
Born as Bette, Mrs Mangle went ‘into service’ at the age of 14 working in the kitchen, as a laundry maid and eventually a lady’s maid. When she met her husband, Joe, Bette moved to Gloucestershire and set up her own laundry business. Her daughter Margaret followed in her footsteps in housekeeping and became known as ‘Little Miss Wringler’ - hence the name Mangle and Wringler.
The products themselves are gentle and non toxic but powerful enough to be very effective. With the rise of allergies, asthma and eczema it’s more relevant than ever to hark back to our past and revive these lost and forgotten antidotes. At the heart of each recipe is the cold-processed soap which Bette learned to make as a child, made from 100% pure coconut oil or a combination with sunflower oil. Ingredients such as citric acid and bicarbonate of soda, distilled white wine vinegar and Bette’s own lemon oil recipe - a natural antibacterial - are then added to create chemical-free products.
Mangle and Wringler has a philosophy rooted in Bette’s values; hard work, honesty, loyalty and pride. With these products you can enjoy a beautiful and clean home in the knowledge that you have a safe and natural environment. To quote Bette herself ‘Our health is our greatest wealth’.
