What is a Poke (Poke-ay) Bowl?

A poke bowl is based on raw marinated fish, typically yellowfin tuna or wild salmon, that's cubed and layered up with a satisfying serving of sticky rice and power-packed pickles. These days however, poke joints offer a choice of chicken, tofu, shrimp, pork, jackfruit followed by your choice of base - sticky rice, noodles or salad followed by a pairing of delicious Japanese influenced sauces such as ponzu (Japanese yuzu fruit) Japanese mayo, siriacha, teriyaki and tahini. This is then accompanied by pickled and fresh vegetables + crunchy unami toppings such as nori sesame, crispy onions or spicy peanuts.
