Imperfect Geometry
Autumn at Among the Pines brings a return trip to The Space at Caro. The first exhibition will show new abstract paper assemblages by British multi-disciplinary artist Alice Sheppard Fidler, alongside a new series of hand built ceramics by Argentinian, Ibizian based artist Maria Balda. In the window will hang a large, abstract bronze suspended sculpture by young British artist Alice Andrea Ewing, introducing her work to Among the Pines.
Alice Shepperd Fidler is a visual artist working across installation, sculpture and performance often operating outside the gallery context. She utilises and transforms found and recycled materials and spaces to navigate often fragile and imperceptible boundaries between place, human experience and states of being.
Her works on paper use collage techniques with recycled materials and surfaces to make objects delicately put together without hiding papery-ness or edges, their handmade nature purposefully linking back to their maker.
This process facilitates her thinking and enables her to unpick, test and develop the themes that recur throughout her practice; spatial relationships, power relationships, and states of being, making works that operate at different visual scales so they can be read at cellular, human or cosmic registers.
